Biography of Ted Bundy Essay - 1479 Words

Biography of Ted Bundy Ted Bundy is one of the worst serial killers in history. His Antisocial personality and psychotic character made him feared across the country. After all was said and done Ted left behind a trail of bloody slayings that included the deaths of 36 young women and spanned through four states. The biggest question in many people’s mind was how could someone as intelligent, highly accomplished, and praised as Bundy do such a thing? Theodore Robert Bundy was born November 24th, 1946 in Burlinton, Vermont. His mother Eleanor Louise Cowell was 22 when she had him. Ted’s mom never told him much about his father except that he was in the armed forces and they had only dated a few times. Ted was left in†¦show more content†¦He became a â€Å"Peeping Tom.† 1He reported as a child he had become fascinated by sexual violence. He was warned about the effects of pornography and stated the it â€Å"brings out a hatred that is just too terrible to describe.† He also began shoplifting for expensive items and told his mom that they were gifts. He was picked up at least twice by juvenile authorities for suspicion of auto theft and burglary, but nothing came of it. Ted participated in many respectable behaviors that helped make it so unbelievable to accept his guiltiness. He caught a purse snatcher and was given a commendation from the police department. He also saved a drowning toddler once by diving into a lake after him. Ted also worked for a suicide prevention hotline talking others out of killing themselves. He wrote rape-prevention books and became active in politics gaining the attention of important, highly known people. Ted worked many low paying jobs to pay for college. He was a busboy at a hotel, a messenger, and clerks at various stores. He left most jobs after only a few months. Some employers said he was a good worker while others gave him less than favorable comments. It is likely that Ted killed his first victim while in his teens. However, police brutality has been a social issue in the United States for quite some time now and is only rapidly getting worse rather than improving. With the news channels and social media exploiting videos of law enforcement officers using forceful tactics but not showing the prior encounters of the individual, it suggests the officer is unjustifiably using force. Furthermore, the statistics over the span of April 2009 through June 2010 represents the numbers of reports filed against police officers due to them handling a situation in a nonprofessional and violent-like manner which was reported to be 5,986 during that time frame. Out of the 5,986 reports filed, 382 of those reports claimed a death due to an officer’s misconduct. 33% of the misconduct cases presented throughout April 2009 through June 2010 were officers proven to be guilty of such an offense by the jury, and 64% of the misconduct cases led to imprisonment of the officer whom committed such crime. Around the year 2000, another wave for green marketing came into effect when the corporate social responsibility and the triple bottom line became prominent globally. Certain publications like in 2005 by the United Nations report and then a book by Al Gore in 2006 brought in several scientific environmental debates to the common public in an easier way to understand. Green Washing The advent of green marketing, there came in lots of drawbacks in the late 1980s when many organizations used this name to demand false awareness about their products and services. For example, a firm named BP Amoco advertised its product Plug in the Sun by installing solar panels in many gas stations, while they aggressively were lobbying for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The process of green marketing is a very aggressive marketing strategy if the organizations implement them properly. The consumers fell in a dilemma about which product is environment friendly and beneficial as there were no labeling standards. Therefore, the consumers paid extra amount for the misrepresented products. This process established the name green washing where the industries wrongfully represented themselves and their products as environmentally friendly. Thus, there was a rise in the green marketing with a large number of consumers willing to back their environmental awareness by paying extra amount, which can be dangerous for the future. The society becomes biased towards any green claims and thereby the companies destroy their brand image and their sales if the society finds out that their promotions are false. Thus the meaning of green washing is presenting a product as environment friendly when it is actually not (Polonsky, 2014). The environmentally preferable label shows how the raw materials are obtained, manufactured and distributed, reused, maintained, operated and disposed thereof. With the interference of the government, special labels have been introduced, which identifies the original environmentally friendly products and services. Green Marketing This process concentrates on the relationship between the attitude of the consumers and the environmental strategies with accordance to the firm using this marketing strategy. This marketing issue involves environmental use in the marketing effort. The main aim is that the consumers are given the information about the environmental effect of the products and the customers can make use of this data into account while deciding which product to buy. These aspects will motivate the industries to incline towards the production of the products, which advantageous in the environmental point of view. Green marketing has the same features as the traditional marketing technique. The process of green marketing includes the 4P marketing mix of price, place, product and promotion. It is of prime importance for the organizations to establish a relationship with everyone they interact with like the suppliers, intermediaries, society and the consumers. Therefore, many companies today have committed themselves for carrying out business functions with respect to the principles of environment. The advent of time has brought in new green behaviors. The new green behaviors have to be according to the increased environmental consciousness from the consumers, law makers, environmental groups etc. It also needs to comply with the national and international rules and regulations that have been established from time to time. The greater commitment of the government has also instigated for the implementation of this trend resulting in the use of economic permits like the taxes and omission of penal ties in order to encourage the organizations to consume fewer resources and dispose fewer pollutants. There are also legal results applicable to the companies if they do not pay attention to the laws issued by the government (Sharma, Iyer, 2012). The firms aim to increase competitive edge in the market by abiding by the demand trend of the consumers and thereby making changes of their development over time. The organizations need to focus on both the aspects of marketing, namely maintaining a healthy relationship with the stakeholders to regain loyalty and trust and also making environmental management as a strategic equipment to improve control and decrease the environmental impact and also creates business opportunities for the industries (Chan, He, Wang, 2012). The response of the consumers can either be influenced by the individual preferences and motives or by collective motives. These motives thus, shape the insight of the consumers through advertising. The response of the consumers towards an advertisement will directly influence either negatively or positively towards the perception of the brand and product purchase. The consumers will have a positive attitude towards the behavior of the advertising if they find that such a product will have a positive outcome (Ankit Mayur, 2013). The study also determines the effect of advertisements and the responsiveness of the consumers towards these advertisements. The study primarily looks into the matter of green marketing and why is it necessary in the modern world. It also helps to evaluate the origin of green marketing and the reason why green marketing has gained so much importance globally. Green marketing also tries to identify how the implementation of these strategies will be useful to the society as a whole. The wrongdoings of the firms by misrepresenting their products as eco-friendly are also discussed. The current advertisement motive is to appeal the personal values and providing consumer empowerment and therefore, it is the right time to implement the eco-friendly awareness into the marketing mix thereby, solving the problems the world faces. The process of green marketing can thus produce highly effective results if it is used properly and with integrity. Research Objective The objective of the study is to analyze the response of the consumers and encourage them to purchase eco-friendly products. The study also reveals the effect of advertisement and the effect of a proper promotional campaign and advertisement in generating awareness in the minds of the consumers. It is therefore, found out that the green marketing is still in its early stage and thus requires a lot of research over the environment friendly marketing by eliminating green washing and other challenges faced by green marketing. When it becomes easy to focus on one object for a long time then aYogi is ready to move on to concentrate on one single object (Lidell, 94). Chakra meditation falls under concentration meditation. There are seven majorchakras along the spin. They start at the base of the spine and go up to the top of the head. The seven major chakras are connected by three major nadies. Sushumna, the middlenadi, has neutral characteristics. Nearest your left hand is the ida nadi. It has yincharacteristics. The third nearest your right hand is pingala nadi. It has yang qualities(Chakras and Meditation). Through these nadis the chakras are connected and energypasses from one to another. Each chakra is said to be an energy transformer (Chakras and Meditation). When a chakra is activated or meditated on, it releases a unique type of energy. Thisenergy is measurable and immeasurable. The measurable energy is electromagnetic energyand light photons. The immeasurable energy is called prana. Prana is the vital, essentialenergy of the universe (Smith, 231-233). The chakras are the centers in the body werethis energy is activated and stored (Smith, 231-233). For the chakras to be activated properly it depends on the sitting position. Duringmeditation a Yogi should sit Indian style, with their legs crossed. One heel should be infront of the pelvis bone and the other in front of the first heel. The knees spread as farapart as possible and rested on the floor. This sitting position will provide a stable base. The neck and spine will be straight. Breathing will also be easier because the chest cavity isopen. This will also help with concentrating and will promote clearer thinking (Smith,224-225). Chakra meditation is very simple and easy to do. A yogi simply concentrates oneach chakra starting with the root chakra traveling up the shushumna and activating thenext higher chakra (Chakra and Meditation). It may take weeks or months to move fromone chakra to the next. It is a very long process. The seven main chakras are muladhara, swadishthana, manipura, anahata,vishuddha, ajnal and sahasrara. The chakras are located along the ethereal counterpart ofthe spinal cord and cannot be seen through normal vision (Smith, 231-233). To bring thebody to a state of rest a Yogi must focus their attention to the processes of breathing, theheartbeat, and the flow of electromagnetic energy. Then the prana will begin to move upthe Sushumna awakening the higher chakras. This awakening must start with the first chakra muladhara. This is the root or basechakra. It is located at the base of the spine (Chakras and Meditation). Each chakra isthought of as a lotus flower that has a color and a number of petals. This chakra is ayellow lotus with four petals. The main element of this chakra is the earth and survival(Lidell, 71). This chakra deals with the survival of ones self. Here is were the full picture of reality is seen. This is donewith the third eye. This eye is thought of as an organ of perception. It gives off a beam oflight . This beam cannot be seen or measured except by another with the third eye. Thiseye gives the person the power to see qualities behind appearances. Also here the separations and boundaries that have been constructed by man areseen as illusionary (Smith, 237). A cosmic stream of intelligence and understanding arebrought into notice and it is realized that everyone is in an ocean moving together (Smith,237). To find out what this ocean is the next level must be activated. Sahasrara is the seventh and final chakra. It is the crown chakra and is located onthe top of the head (Chakras and Meditation). This is the thousand petal lotus. Thislotus has no color of its own. This chakra corresponds to absoluteness. This is were aYogi attains samadhi or superconciousness (Lidell, 71). The goal of a Yogi duringmeditation is to gain this superconciousness. Sahasrara is the center of pure spirit. The question Who am I? is answeredthrough the crown chakra as: I am a wave of infinite bliss (Smith, 237-238). To a Yogino further explanation is desired or needed. Added by this chakra is the feeling of eternal peace. This is the end of the soulsquest but the beginning of a new mission. This is when a Yogi will start to help othersouls seeking the light of truth. To do this they have to go below the seventh chakra, butno lower than the fourth chakra. Meditation in the higher stages allows a person to view life from an advantagepoint. In these higher stages life is viewed as unified and perfect. To most people lifeappears disorganized and imperfect. Throughout the day everybody passes in and out ofdifferent chakra levels. Most people have a chakra center that they reside in most oftenduring the day. Most people spend their lives in the first, second and third chakra levels.
